About the Theory Test

The Theory Test is a two part test. You have to pass both parts of the test at the same time to pass.

The first part is a set of multiple choice questions designed to test your knowledge of the highway code. From September 3rd 2007, there are 50 questions, each with a selection of possible answers for you to choose from. You need to get at least 43 questions right to pass this part of the Theory Test.

The DSA has also prepared practise questions which can be accessed on there web site or by clicking on this link.

The other part is called the Hazard Perception test and is a series of video clips in which you have to identify developing hazards. There are 14 clips in which you have to identify 15 developing hazards. These are not the normal or fixed features on the road but those things that you see which could develop into a hazard for which you need to take some action to avoid. You need to score 45 out of 75 marks to pass this part of the test.
